Through our publishing, we have been reaffirming great periods of human history and heritage.
We have always pursued and promoted the ideal and meaning of artistic creativity. We are proud
of the role we are playing in the publishing culture.
Graphic-sha Publishing has been working creatively, in cooperation with all kinds of people since
its establishment. Through contacts with people of various backgrounds and professions, we have
learned much due to their exceptional foresight and creativity.
Because our staff possesses advanced creative sense for seeking "beauty" and "creativity," we are
able to operate not only in Japan, but abroad as well. We hope to work toward the realization of
the goal.
Graphic-sha Publishing has 5 divisions; Editorial, Sales, Operations, Accounting, and International.
With unique and fresh ideas, each division's works reflected in total are doing much for the
considerable success of the company. We will try to make further contributions to the
development of Graphic-sha, and will pursue development to enlighten our readers.
Japanese old proverb, Ichi-go Ichi-e (meaning only once in a lifetime) is the soul of our business.
We'd like to keep and treasure every encounter. In the future, we will further intensify our efforts

History

1963: Graphic-sha Publishing Co., Ltd. established in Suginami, Tokyo for the typesetting of
Commercial Design publications.

1964: Publication department office established in Misaki-cho, Kanda, Tokyo. Graphic-sha's first
title, "Lettering Jiten" published.

1968: Popular edition of "Lettering Jiten" published. And then, "Kabuki Kantei Ryu" and
"World's Illustration Encyclopedia" published.

1970: Publication department office relocated to Kudankita, Chiyoda, Tokyo. Company logo "g"
designed by Mr. Hiroshi Otomo.

1971: The research of international market started in order to expand operations on the international
rights and sales.

1972: "Expression and Technique for Perspective Drawing" published. Advanced into the field
of Architecture and Interior Design. "Japanese Design Annual 1972" published. Established

1973: Typesetting department demerged. Sales department for a publisher relocated to Kudankita,
Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. Publication department became a part of Editorial division. Typesetting
department changed its name to Fuji Process Limited.

1974: Executive officer, Toshiro Kuze visited the international Frankfurt book fair for the first time.
Since then, has been participating the international book fair every year.

1977: Sicentific publication "Where human-beings came from?" published, which became
controversial and went through several editions.

1978: 12-volume set of books "Western Art History" launched. Also, commencing with "Kawai
gyokudou shasei cho," "Painting examples for Japanes- style painting" series published.

1980: "Painting Books by Jose Parramon " series published.

1981: "The World of Detailed Illustration" published. Created a boom of realistic illustration.

1983: Became successful in exporting many of our publications, such as "World's Trademarks &
Logotype" to the other countries. Graphic-sha became one of the best publishers who always
have good sales in importing to international market with 20-30% of sales. Also, photography
book "Ichi-moku Ichi-sou" (one tree, one weed) published. More than 50 titles of photography
have been published now.

1984: To promote international sales, Organization divided to 5 divisions; Accounting, Operations,
Sales, Editorial and International. "Story of ancient castles in Europe" series published. Ever
since then, this series has been well established and more than 40 titles have so far been published.

1985: "Nippan International Association" (55 members of publishers at that time) established. As
a part of rationalization, started printing outside of Japan.

1988: As a part of rationalization, started importing some papers from Australia.

1990: Participated the 1st Tokyo International Book Fair and had own booth.

1991: For further efficiency and rationalization, increased printing quantity overseas.

1992: The project of Computer Technique books started, because of widespread use of computers
among readers in Design, Interior, Photography and Painting.

1993: Painting and Craft Technique book, "Culture" series picked up.

1994: Translation books of "Technique Encyclopedia" series promoted.

1995: "Japan Naming Annual" published.

1996: Japanese edition of "How To Draw Manga" series launched.

1997: English edition of "How To Draw Manga" series launched.

1998: Visited the London Book Fair. Many foreign titles published in Japanese.

1999: Color chart series books launched.

2000: "How To Draw Manga" series published in 12 different languages.

2001: Visited 2001 Comic-Con International in San Diego, California.

2002: "Super Drawings" series launched.

2003: "New Culture" series launched in March. Main office relocated to 1-14-17 Kudankita,
Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.

2004: Design books, such as "Promotion Design," promoted to be published.

2005: Cooperated with IdN Hong Kong. Bimonthly book, "International Design Network"
launched.
